‘The Merchant of Venice’ tells the story of Antonio, a rich merchant of Venice, who borrows a large sum of money to help his younger friend, Bassanio, woo Portia, a rich heiress. As a result of his generosity Antonio unexpectedly finds himself facing not only bankruptcy but possible death when he fails to repay Shylock a Jewish moneylender.
