Throughout the month of August, The Point has been closed whilst the venue is soundproofed after a noise complaint was made by a neighbour. By the end of the month, all the work will have been done, all the money spen t and the venue fully soundproofed. So, what better way than to celebrate with a huge party…in complete silence!
That’s right, Silent Disco is back. After several brilliant, packed out months, the disco that makes no sound, annoys no neighbours and protects your little eardrums returns. Here’s the rub:
Upon entry to The Point, each disco-goer is handed a Silent Disco set of headphones (hired for a refundable £5 deposit). These headphones have a special button, enabling each person to switch between two sets of transmissions. On stage, a posse of Cardiff’s finest DJs play tunes on two separate record decks. Flick between the two channels and you’ll hear different DJs, different tunes. Look around and you’ll see people dancing in baff lingly odd, disconnected ways. Occasional random cheers, singsongs and maybe even dance routines will break out across the dancefloor. Take the headphones off and all you’ll hear is the stomp of dancing feet. A strange, funny and unforgettable experience. Plus! Requests can be sent to the DJs by text and messages to mates and photos of happy silent dancers can be displayed on the big screen. Technology eh?
