When you’ve sold over four million albums in your career it’s for a very good reason. Somewhat oddly, Y&T gained most of their album sales not on the back of radio hits or chart-bothering success but because of their intense live shows. So, Y&T playing live at The Point this autumn is something of a coup.

Originally formed in San Francisco in 1973, Y&T (named after a Beatles song) picked up a big local following supporting the likes of Journey and The Doobie Brothers in their hometown. Signing with A&M Records they released two albums but were quickly dropped when neither produced a hit. Later albums were a success but when it came to the crunch, something always seemed to get in the way. Be it bad production (Black Tiger), a bad image (Contagious) or losing older fans by replacing the original drummer, Y&T never quite gained the chart success those who saw them live felt they deserved.

It was those live shows that prompted so many labels to invest in them, releasing 17 albums over the years. Their high energy sets always whipped their audience into a frenzy and they still do today. This is a band who know how to work a crowd, having played live with AC/DC, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne and Aerosmith so come on down to The Point to catch one of the world’s most unsung live acts.
