Laura Ashley Exhibition

”Laura Ashley: Designs, Patterns and Motifs”
New temporary exhibition at Newtown Textile Museum.

This summer’s special exhibition at Newtown Textile Museum is called “Laura Ashley: Designs, Patterns and Motifs” and it is the second part of a three-year project on this world-famous fashion company hosted by the three Powys County Council museums in Montgomeryshire.

The project started last year in Llanidloes Museum. Due to limited space and lack of artefacts the exhibition was quite small but it described the start of the company and its move to Carno in Mid-Wales and the establishment of one of the first Laura Ashley shops in Llanidloes.

This year the project has moved to Newtown Textile Museum with a small exhibition focusing on the company’s famous designs, patterns and motifs, thus fitting in with the overall remit of the Newtown Textile Museum.

Finally, the project will travel to the temporary exhibition gallery at Powysland Museum in Welshpool in 2009, where it will form the museum’s main summer exhibition and depict the full story of the Laura Ashley Company and its products.

The displays consist of photographs, documents and artefacts kindly lent to the museum by the Laura Ashley Archives as well as by private collectors.
